Facial expression synthesis using a statistical model of appearance

چکیده
This paper details a procedure for generating a mapping function which maps an image of a neutral face to one depicting a smile. This is achieved by the computation of the Facial Expression Shape Model (FESM) and the Facial Expression Texture Model (FETM). These are statistical models of facial expression based on anatomical analysis of facial expression called the Facial Action Coding System (FACS). The FEAM and the FETM allow for the generation of a subject independent mapping function. These models provide a robust means for upholding the rules of the FACS and are flexible enough to describe subjects that are not present during the training phase. We use these models in conjunction with severalArtificial Neural Networks (ANN) to generate photo-realistic images of facial expressions.

Synthesis of human facial expressions based on the distribution of elastic force applied by control points
Facial expressions play an essential role in delivering emotions. Thus facial expression synthesis gain interests in many fields such as computer vision and graphics. Facial actions are generated by contraction and relaxation of the muscles innervated by facial nerves. The combination of those muscle motions is numerous. therefore, facial expressions are often person specific. But in general, f...

Face expression recognition is useful for designing new interactive devices offering the possibility of new ways for human to interact with computer systems. In this paper we develop a facial expressions analysis and synthesis system. The analysis part of the system is based on the facial features extracted from facial feature points (FFP) in frontal image sequences. Selected facial feature poi...
متن کاملFacial expression recognition and synthesis based on an appearance model
This article addresses the issue of expressive face modelling using an active appearance model for facial expression recognition and synthesis. We consider the six universal emotional categories namely joy, anger, fear, disgust, sadness and surprise. After a description of the active appearance model (computed with 3 or only one PCA), we address the active appearance model contribution to autom...

Facial expression interpretation, recognition and analysis is a key issue in visual communication and man to machine interaction. In this paper, we present a technique for extracting appearance parameters from a natural image or video sequence, which allow reproduction of natural looking expressive synthetic faces. This technique was used to perform face synthesis and tracking in video sequence...
متن کاملBilinear factorization for facial expression analysis and synthesis
This paper addresses the issue of face representations for facial expression recognition and synthesis. In this context, a global active appearance model is used in conjunction with two bilinear factorization models to separate expression and identity factors from the global appearance parameters. Although active appearance models and bilinear modelling are not new concepts, the main contributi...
